So Substack has decided to completely launch a social media arm to their titanic powers.
I think, overall, this is a good thing. In a way. It will need me to exercise caution. I’ve enjoyed not posting for the endless scroll and giving half-baked thoughts on everything. I’ve enjoyed not having my brain hijacked by that environment on the daily.
But I have missed a small place to share small things - usually just pics of what I’m reading. But I refuse to use houses of Musk nor Zuck, and honestly I just then decided against being absorbed into the same mentality on any other space [Mastadon, Tumblr, that other one that launched and got good uptake from comics but then died about a fortnight later]. I decided what I didn’t need was a complete replacement in my life, I needed a new life. And 2023 has afforded me that.
But I like reading newsletters on Substack, so I’m happy to post to this new Notes scheme, but I’m consciously going to post very little, and I’ll also read in the same restrained capacity. I certainly won’t be checking in to see how many likes I’ve received, because therein lies the brain smashing problem.
So take that as my stirring call to arms for you to join me, in a hugely restrained manner, on the new social media that I aim to use for the media part, and not let the social hijack my brain.
I published a note on Substack Notes, and I’ll let you decide what to do with that news :]
Here’s the boilerplate:
“Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things that don’t fit in the newsletter, like work-in-progress or quick questions.”
Shockingly, their template text fits my mindset completely. That might be a very good sign.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to The Two Fisted Homeopape, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of The Two Fisted Homeopape can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
